A Mass Air Flow Sensor (MAF) is used to find out what the mass flowrate of air entering a fuel injected internal combustion engine. This MAF sensor is required for the engine control unit (ECU) to balance and delivery the right fuel mass to the engine.

This MAF meter measures the volume of air that is drawn in to the engine. The way it measures this is by the deflection of the flap located in the Air flow sensor. This flap is connected to the potentiometer which then sends a signal directly to the ECU.
